Beginning last year the Center for Medical Progress (hereafter, CMP) brought to light some of the darkest secrets of a company that profits from genocide- Planned Parenthood. With damning clarity the CMP demonstrated that Planned Parenthood not only kills children; they then sell the amputated parts of these small humans for profit.
We shouldn’t be shocked. This organization exists only to kill children and make money. Don’t be mislead; most of their facilities do not provide services like mammograms. They do, however, butcher and suction out the dismembered parts of small humans- for a fee.
After the videos surfaced a Houston, TX Grand Jury was summoned to investigate the discoveries made regarding Planned Parenthood’s illegal activities. But in the most dramatic turn of events, the Grand Jury has not only refused to bring any action against PP but has actually handed out felony charges against CMP founder David Daleiden.
The long and short of the matter is this- Planned Parenthood and those who support that organization are a collectively wicked, reprobate people. Yet we observe in this case, as in many before, that they continue to prosper. Their evil is not only tolerated but flaunted before a watching world. There is no justice or defense for those lives that have been taken at their hands and we may conclude that there never will be- until, that is, they meet a vengeful God who awaits them.
As Christians these things stir our hearts. Why can men and women who kill children for profit go unpunished while those who expose their deeds be faced with criminal charges? Are the things they brought to the eyes of the world not illegal? Worse yet, are they not unconscionable? To see such injustice sets ablaze our souls within our chests and causes us to lament, shamefully, that God who is onlooking has not encroached these transgressions. We feel a sense of envy- those who practice such awful things seem to go without punishment and yet those who work to bring light into the world often find the fields infertile and the harvest ever too thin.
We are not alone in this struggle. The Bible speaks to the reality of injustice in this world; our forefathers in the faith have recognized this and wrestled with it long before we have.
The Prosperity of the Wicked Stirs the Hearts of the Righteous
This reality is borne out -and warned against- time and again in the Scriptures. Asaph lamented of it, “For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” (Ps. 73:3). Habakkuk struggled with it, “You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?” (Hab. 1:13) Jeremiah plead with God, “Righteous are you, O LORD, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?” (Jer. 12:1)
We shouldn’t count it as wrong to be grieved by such things. When we see evil thrive we respond by detesting that evil and longing for the Lord to bring it to an end. In the case of Planned Parenthood we have to remember over and over again what we are hating- that babies, yet in their mothers’ wombs, are being slaughtered. We remember too that those who have exposed some of the worst of this evil are now standing trial as though they were themselves criminals.
The Scriptures Remind Us to Think of God’s Justice
Emotion aside, we have to remember that God is just. We may not be able to realize that now, trapped as it were in a place of untold evils. But take the authors of Scripture at their word. The wise Solomon wrote, “Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, the devious person is an abomination to the LORD, but the upright are in his confidence.” (Prov. 3:31-32); “Fret not yourself because of evildoers, and be not envious of the wicked,
for the evil man has no future; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.” (Prov. 24:19-20) David: “Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!” (Psa 37:1)
The recurrent theme is this; those who practice evil do often thrive in this life. In a depraved world riddled with every kind of sin there will be injustice, suffering and heartache. But we should not look on those who do these things without recourse as though to envy them. Though they have escaped the wrath of God for now, they will not always do so.
I really don’t know how to summarize all of this. My heart aches in my chest as I contemplate the utter lack of justice that has been brought about in this entire affair. I know the wicked are prospering, for I see it. I take comfort to know that Habakkuk and Jeremiah saw it too. It gives me great confidence to know that David and Solomon wrestled with it, yet they wisely warned not to be troubled too long for the Lord is just and He will someday meet out his justice against all evil.
Oh come, Lord Jesus!
I conclude with these thoughts. We must not be shaken nor stand idly by while this injustice continues. The world will awaken tomorrow as it did today, the Kingdom of God will continue to go forth and the gates of Hell, close to them as we may seem, will not stop the advance of the Gospel. We must draw close to our God.
Let us pray, not seldom but ever and earnestly, for Planned Parenthood and those who support them.
Let us pray first that their eyes may be opened to their sin. May God open their eyes, unstop their ears and soften their hearts and turn them toward the Savior who makes great vessels from the most ashen clay.
But us pray also, if God in His infinite wisdom should not grant them the gifts of faith and repentance,
“But you, O LORD, know me; you see me, and test my heart toward you. Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and set them apart for the day of slaughter.” (Jer 12:3, ESV)
